Natural toxins could lead to mass death of elephants in Botswana, said the acting head of the country's national reserves, S Iril Taolo, July 30 reports Reuters. He referred to the results of research by several of the world's leading laboratories. According to Taolo, the likelihood that the animals died from any infections is small. The official added that the authorities are searching for sources of toxins that could provoke the death of elephants. According to the news agency, on July 13, Mmadi Ruben, chief veterinary inspector of the Botswana Department of Wildlife and National Parks, said that 281 elephants had died in the republic over the past four months for unknown reasons.
