A serious environmental disaster threatens Ukraine with the infrastructure destroyed in the Donbass. This was announced on August 30 by the first deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation in the tripartite contact group on Donbass Vitold Fokin in an interview with Strana.ua. According to him, in the Donbass, which is essentially destroyed, many mines are currently flooded, more than 400 water accumulators and sludge settling tanks are crowded. It is necessary to immediately organize work to clean them, otherwise the water will enter the Azov and Black Seas, Fokin said. The impending disaster could become immeasurably greater than the Chernobyl accident. According to the news agency, the accident at the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant occurred on April 26, 1986 near the city of Pripyat, located today in Ukraine.
