German Ambassador to Skopje calls expansion negotiations Berlin's priority in the EU

On August 5, a 79 meeting of the Government of North Macedonia was held, attended by the German Ambassador to the country, Anke Holstein. This was reported by the Albanian news agency Telegrafi Maqedoni. During the meeting, Holstein said that the joint confrontation between the coronavirus pandemic and the expansion of the preparation of the framework for negotiations on the entry of North Macedonia into the EU are the main priorities of Germany's presidency of the Council of the European Union until the end of 2020. According to the German politician, the new framework of negotiations for North Macedonia and Albania will be prepared taking into account the new methodology for negotiating EU enlargement. Prime Minister Oliver Spasovski emphasized the fact that the framework for EU negotiations with Macedonia was announced the day after Germany assumed the presidency of the Council of the European Union, which indicates that this country makes key decisions during the expansion negotiations. We expect and believe that by the end of your presidency of the Council of the European Union, the first intergovernmental conference will be held, which will mark the official beginning of negotiations between the Republic of North Macedonia and the European Union.
