Pompeo held talks with the Secretary General of the National Security Council of Japan

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary General of the National Security Council of Japan Shigeru Kitamuru on September 25 during telephone conversations concluded that the bilateral alliance is the cornerstone of creating a free and open Indo-Pacific region. It is reported by the newspaper Mainichi with reference to the press secretary of the US Department of State Morgan Ortagus. It is also reported that Kitamura assured Pompeo of the continuity of Japan's foreign policy after the first change in the country's leadership in almost eight years. Spokeswoman Ortagus also noted that Pompeo congratulated Kitamura on his reappointment as Secretary General of the National Security Council of Japan after the formation of the new government, Yoshihide Sugi. These were Kitamura's final talks with key officials in President Donald Trump's administration this week. Earlier, Kitamura also held talks with US National Security Advisor Robert O Brien and US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper.
